Mollette Announces Commitment

The Marshall coaching staff continues to work both on and off the football field. In addition to winning 23 games the past two seasons, the staff also continues to build one of the top recruiting classes in CUSA year in and year out. How does the most recent commitment look in regards to the current depth chart?

The offensive line is where games are typically won and lost. The past few years the Marshall offense has been one of the most prolific offenses in the entire country. It should come as no surprise that each and every year the Herd had multiple all conference offensive lineman protecting its quarterbacks and running backs.

Currently the 2015 Marshall football roster contains 16 offensive lineman who are on scholarship. Among those 15 players, 5 of them will depart the program in the next two seasons due to graduation. Marshall will lose four after the 2015 season, Clint Van Horn, Sebastian Johansson, and Tom Collins. After the 2016 season, Eric Ansley and Michael Selby will leave as well.

Marshall brought along three additions to the line in the recruiting class of 2015, and as of today, two have are a part of the 2016 recruiting class.

The line was bolstered this weekend by the commitment of 6’3”, 285 pound Alex Mollette out of North Gwinnett, Georgia. Mollette had multiple offers from schools across the east coast including CUSA schools, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion and Middle Tennessee State.

Mollette should fit in well next fall with the departures of at least two starters. Mollette is a strong, tough lineman that coaches Alex Mirabal and Doc Holliday have strived to bring into the program the past few years. Mollette continues a trend of lineman for the Herd from the state of Georgia. He joins starting center Michael Selby, Eric Ansley and 2015 commit Levi Brown. Brown is already on campus and working out with his new team. His toughness and athletic ability could vault him into the two deep once August camp arrives.

In addition to Brown, Marshall also signed Jason Jean from Miami Central High School. Miami Central as many know is the home of former Marshall greats Rakeem Cato and Tommy Shuler. Local product, Alex Locklear from Spring Valley High School in Huntington, also joined the program as a scholarship athlete with the class of 2015.

Mollette joins Florida native Sean Behrens as early commits to the offensive line for the class of 2016.

Other lineman on the 2015 roster include:

Tyler Combs – Redshirt Sophomore
A.J. Addison – Sophomore
Sandley Jean Felix – Redshirt Sophomore
Cody Collins – Redshirt Sophomore
Fedrice Binot – Redshirt Freshman
Nathaniel Devers – Redshirt Freshman
Jordan Dowrey – Redshirt Freshman

The commitment of Mollette brings the total to seven commits for the Marshall class of 2015.
