Carl Fodor ushered in an era of Marshall sports two decades ago when he shattered nearly every single passing record in the Marshall football record books. After Fodor, Marshall produced several more all conference caliber quarterbacks, Tony Petersen, John Gregory, Michael Payton, Todd Donnan, Chad Pennington, Eric Kresser, Byron Leftwich, Stan Hill, Bernard Morris, Rakeem Cato and now have a young hot shot gun slinger in Chase Litton.
Marshall has been a version of QBU for nearly 20 years now. The quarterback position has been somewhat in flux the past couple weeks as it was announced that senior to be Gunnar Holcombe has elected to leave the program as a graduate transfer in order to play before his eligibility has expired.
Going into the St. Pete Bowl Marshall has two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, starter Chase Litton and back up Michael Birdsong. Walk on Kyle Gallup is the other rostered quarterback getting action in practice.
Marshall has offered and received a commitment from one quarterback for the recruiting class of 2016.
Three Star Garett Morrell from Lee County High School in Georgia committed to Marshall in June of 2015. Herdhaven reached out to Morrell earlier this month, and last week he reaffirmed he is a solid commitment to Doc Holliday and his staff.
