Midway through the month of December, Marshall basketball fans were all set to write the 2015/2016 season as a total loss. The Herd sat with an 0 – 6 record, were having trouble scoring, and the toughest games were yet to come. Then, things changed. Since that point, Marshall has ran off 15 wins against just 6 losses to pull their record to a seasons best three games over .500 at 15 – 12, and 11 – 3 in CUSA play.
Tonight the Herd travels to Birmingham, Alabama hoping to avenge an early easy, controversial, home loss to the Blazers. A game in which, many would say, whistles were swallowed at very crucial moments.
This time around, if the Herd can pull out a win, they will be tied for first place in CUSA with just two three games remaining. Those games are very tough though as Marshall will travel to Middle Tennessee State on Saturday before ending the year with home games next week versus Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss.
Marshall leads the conference in scoring and should boast the CUSA player of the year, newcomer of the year, and Coach of the year, in Ryan Kelly for the first two, and Coach Dan D’Antoni for the latter.
