Corey Tindal left school early for the NFL and recently signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. Keith Baxter exhausted his eligibility and recently signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Chris Williams Hall started last season high on the depth chart and got injured, he is still not cleared for football activities per reports. Antavis Rowe played a ton of snaps as a true sophomore and missed spring practice due to injury. That left the Herd with a only handful of cornerbacks. Rodney Allen, Chocolate Wilson, TJ Griffin, Michael Johnson and newcomer Chris Jackson.
Jackson had an excellent spring camp, as did Allen, but Jackson is still a true freshman who should be in high school, Griffin has only been on campus since August, and the Johnson and Wilson have underachieved to this point.
Clearly, more players were needed. The Herd hit a home run when they lured in former four star recruit, and Michigan grad transfer Terry Richardson.
Richardson is a speedy, 5’9”, 170 pound corner from Cass Technical High School in Detroit. He graduated this past week from Michigan and will enroll at Marshall as a graduate transfer studying Adult Technical Education. He was the number 13 cornerback coming out of high school.
Herdhaven.com caught up with Richardson. Richardson was asked a little bit about Marshall and what made him choose to come to Marshall, or if he had any past relationships with any players or coaches. He said, “I didn’t have any connections or past relationships, I just felt that Coach Holliday, Coach Heather and Coach Fuller were real genuine guys.”
Richardson was asked what he was most excited about in regards to coming to Marshall. “Just getting down there to win a championship.” He also said, “I am really eager to learn about the Marshall tradition.”
Richardson will arrive at Marshall this Sunday, May 15th. He is not sure what number he will wear at Marshall and says he expects to play at “all of the defensive back positions.”
