One Door Closes, Another One....

The safety position is one of the deepest, and most talented on the team. That will prove to be a good thing, as a troubled safety was dismissed from the program today.

The old saying goes, when one door shuts, another one opens.  This afternoon the door finally shut for the final time for senior safety Tiquan Lang.  Countless issues throughout his career have finally led to his dismissal from the teams.

Head Coach Doc Holliday released the following statement:  “"Marshall senior safety Tiquan Lang has been dismissed due to a violation of team rules and policies."

No further comment will be forthcoming.”

With the door closing on Lang, it is opening for several other members of the Marshall defense.

First and foremost, this should open the door for CJ Reavis and Kendall Gant to start.  They total to have accumulated 8 stars from coming out of high school. Both had several big time offers, Gant was headed to UGA at one point, and Reavis was set to start last year at Virginia Tech.

Also in the mix are three star safety Jeremiah Maddox.  Maddox arrived at Marshall mid season and has been practicing since March.

Senior Corey Neely has been playing like he has been a four year starter this summer.  Neely has switched numbers, now wearing number 5, and looks like a different player.

2015 non qualifier George Davis has had a very impressive summer as well.  Throughout camp he has made plays all over the field and his size will move him into the mix early.

So, in conclusion, Lang is no longer with the program.

That leaves the Herd with:

Corey Neely

Kendall Gant

CJ Reavis

Jeremiah Maddox

George Davis

Oh, and don’t forget about former Indiana commit Brandon Drayton.  The 6’3” safety will most likely redshirt with the upperclass depth, but he is very talented.
