Herd Hoops - Inside the Numbers

Marshall Basketball heads into the final weeks. Several players are flying up the all time Marshall leader board lists.

Signing Day has come and gone.  With no football left until spring practice begins in March, it is time to take a look at where the Men’s Basketball stands, “Inside the Number.”


Currently, after the recent three game CUSA losing streak, the Herd stands at 13 – 11 overall and 6 – 5 in CUSA.  There is a ton of basketball left to be played, starting this Saturday on the road with WKU, who the Herd is tied with in the standings.


If the tournament started today we would be the sixth seed.  As the standings set right now we would open up tournament play against UTSA.  The winner would then play ODU, and then, most likely, LA Tech.  Not a bad draw if it stands that way.


In regards to individual numbers, below are some stats:


Ryan Taylor

Points – 1,624 – Currently 9th all time in Marshall history

Rebounds – 896 – Currently 5th all time in Marshall history

Assists – 270 – Currently 16th all time in Marshall history

Blocks – 170 – Currently 8th all time in Marshall history

Steals- 97 – Currently  30thh all time in Marshall history


Stevie Browning

Points – 810 – needs to average nearly 24 points a game in order to break 1,000 in just two years of play here

Assists – 190 – 26th all time, in less than two years here


Jon Elmore

846 points – needs to stay at his average of 19 points per game in order to break 1,000

Assists – 296 – 14th all time in Marshall history, should end the year near the top 10

3 pt field goals made – 115 – Already 15th in school history


Austin Loop

Points – 990

3 pt field goals made – 262


This is a special team that features several players cementing their legacy among the Thundering Herd’s all time greats.
