Marshall Accepts Ft. Worth Bowl Bid

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Herd is going bowling for the seventh time in the last 8 years. MU Director of Athletics Bob Marcum announced Tuesday that Marshall has accepted an invitation to play the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in the PlainsCapital Fort Worth Bowl on December 23 at Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. "We are excited about the opportunity to play in the PlainsCapital Fort Worth Bowl," Marcum said. "We are thrilled to be playing in our seventh bowl game in the last eight years. This is a great reward for our coaches, players, and fans."

Marshall (6-5 overall, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) will be making its first appearance in the PlainsCapital Fort Worth Bowl. The Thundering Herd has a 5-2 all-time record in bowl games, and will be making its seventh bowl appearance in the last eight seasons. Marshall has won its last five bowl appearances, which includes a 25-14 decision over Cincinnati in the 2000 Motor City Bowl.

"The coaches, the players, and Herd fans are excited and honored to be selected to play in the PlainsCapital Fort Worth Bowl," Marshall Head Coach Bob Pruett said. "We are going to start practicing on Friday, and we are looking forward to the game."

This will be Cincinnati's fourth bowl appearance in the past five seasons. The Bearcats, 6-5 overall, rallied from a 2-4 start to finish in a tie for second place in Conference USA with a 5-3 league record.

Tickets for the PlainsCapital Fort Worth Bowl cost $40 and are now on sale through the Marshall University Athletic Ticket Office. Tickets may be purchased online at or by calling 1-800-THE-HERD. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Cam Henderson Center between the hours of 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Marshall is also offering fans the opportunity to support the Herd by participating in a proxy ticket program. Tickets purchased through the program will be donated to military families and charities in the Fort Worth area to use.
