The #6 Thing We'd Like To See in 2002:
We'd Like To SeeA tight end with over 30 receptions in 2002.
Marshall has five (yes, 5) tight ends listed on the depth chart this year. So, it's safe to say that you can expect to see one and two tight-end sets looming on the horizon. Don't forget the 'Whopper' set, which involves three tight ends, either.
Georgia transfer (and St. Albans native) Jason Rader is the one tight end whom the most is expected of in 2002. At 6'4", and 261 pounds, he has the physical tools to do anything he wants, really.
TE Jason Rader
Eddie Smolder, Joe Deifel, Jeff Mullins, and Matt Morris bring more depth to the tight end spot than has been seen in at least 10 years at Marshall. Germaine Wiggins holds the record with 58 catches in 1995. Expecting any one of this year's group to even come close to that record is asking a wee bit much, we think. However, look for one of this group (probably Rader) to eclipse the 30 catches in a season mark, if all goes as planned.
