We'd Like to See: A dominating defensive end, a'la Paul Toviessi, come to the forefront in 2002. Play at the end spot was solid in 2001, but after watching Toviessi play with the verve he had, not to mention having Jimmy Parker with him on the line, we have to have more.
Maurice McKinney, Jonathan Goddard, and Paul Sinlcair are the three-deep at left end. Jamus Martin, Kingsley Clark, and Marcus Hairston are their counterparts on the right side. Hairston jumped out and made a statement in spring practice, giving Playboy All-American tackle Steve Sciullo all he cared for, day after day.
Can Hairston be a dominating player? We'll see in summer drills. Same for the other guys. McKinney is solid, as is Martin. Clark and Sinclair could battle for PT as well.
Yet another battle to watch in summer drills, huh? With this position, however, the talent is already in place. Now, it's just a matter of seeing who can step up and be a Toviessi-like player of dominating stature.
