Franchez Pitts joins four other Marshall recruits who have given a verbal commitment to the Thundering Herd football program. Also giving a verbal is quarterback Chris Smith of South Point (Ohio) High School (6-3, 215, 4.7), offensive/defensive lineman Micah Carter of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, W.Va. (6-5, 330, 5.75), defensive back Justin Footman of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida (5-11, 185, 4.5) and offensive lineman John Bruhin, Jr. of Powell High School in Knoxville, Tennessee (6-4, 295, 5.0).
Bruhin's brother, Zane, already is a member of the Thundering Herd and Marshall has five other team members from the Volunteer State on the roster. Carter will join four other Marshall starters from the Beckley area currently on the Marshall roster. Smith will see local players on the team from Huntington, W.Va., Ironton, Ohio, Barboursville, W.Va. and Minford, Ohio while Footman will find six members of the Herd from the Sunshine State.

Marshall has rebounded from a 1-5 start, with losses at No. 3 WVU, No. 8 Tennessee and the Big Twelve's Kansas State. The Herd also started 0-2 in Conference USA, but is now 2-2 and tied with Southern Miss for second in the East Division, one-half game behind East Carolina (3-2 C-USA). Marshall plays Tulane (1-3 C-USA/3-5 overall) on CSTV this week at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at Marshall's Edwards Stadium and will face both ECU (Nov. 11) and Southern Miss (Nov. 25, a game now on CSTV at 7:30 p.m. EST) on the road later this month. UTEP also visits Huntington Nov. 18.
