About 400 fans sat in the stands to watch Marshall's first scrimmage during summer drills on Saturday. And while the fans didn't get to see Heisman Trophy candidate Leftwich play, they did get to see much of the second team units go at it, full-bore.
"We need some more leadership out there, when Byron's not there," said Playboy All-American lineman Steve Sciullo. "That's what it's for: To work out the rough spots. But we also have to be sharper."
Moriah Anderson picked this pass intended for Jason Schroeder (18), and returned it for a TD at Marshall's Saturday scrimmage.
With Leftwich being held out, backup QB Stan Hill took the reins. Hill went 8-for-14 and 64 yards, while throwing one interception. Running back Brandon Carey impressed the crowd, carrying the ball 8 times for 30 yards.
And then, the rain came.
The crowd runs for the exits after a heavy storm ended Marshall's scrimmage on Saturday.
"We got a little work in, and we'll just have to come back and see where we are," summed up Marshall coach Bob Pruett. At 3:30pm, after about 40 plays had been run, the scrimmage was cancelled due to a gulley-washer of a storm that poured heavy rain down upon Marshall Stadium. Pruett did confirm that the scrimmage will be resumed on Sunday at 4:30pm at Marshall Stadium.
