Day made six three pointers on the day, which vaulted him into first place all-time for three pointers made at the Great Alaska Shootout. Day was 6-of-10 from three, 8-of-16 from the floor.
The Herd came out with a bang to start the game, going on a 10-0 run on a Jean Francois Bro Grebe (Abidjan, Ivory Coast) layup, two threes by Travis Aikens (Orlando, Fla.) and Mark Dorris (Cincinnati, Ohio), and a layup by Markel Humphrey (Ellenwood, Ga.).

The Kangaroos responded with an 18-4 run over the next 4:43 to take an 18-14 lead. Both teams battled back and forth for the next five minutes until UMKC ended the half on a 12-4 run to make the score 42-34 heading into the break.
Marshall did not go away easily in the second half, storming back into the game in the opening ten minutes of the final stanza. After the under-12 media timeout at the 9:54 mark, sophomore Darryl Merthie (Sanford, Fla.) made a three to give the Herd its first lead since 6:17 in the first half at 60-59. The Kangaroos' Dane Brumagin counterpunched the Herd in their next two possessions, making a two and a three to put UMKC up for good, 64-62, with 8:10 to play in the game. Marshall stayed within two at 67-65 with 6:48 to go, but UMKC pulled away from the Herd with seven consecutive points. Four points would be as close at the Herd would get the rest of the way.

For the game, the Thundering Herd shot its best percentage of the season, knocking in 50% of its shots. MU was 34.5% from three, and 88.2% from the free throw line.
Dorris set the pace for the Thundering Herd, scoring a career-high 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Tre Whitted (Wilmington, N.C.) added 14 points, Bro Grebe chipped in 11 points, and Humphrey pitched in ten.

Brent Stephens was the only other double-digit scorer for the Kangaroos with 14 points.
Marshall returns to the lower 48 Sunday and returns to action on Wednesday against Morehead State. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Morehead.
