In-State Recruiting Battle for Cole Bowers

Cole Bowers, an offensive tackle from Cabell Midland High School in Ona, W.Va., has seen his recruitment heat up lately, but in-state rivals Marshall University and head coach Mark Snyder as well as West Virginia University, with first-year head coach Bill Stewart, were the first two schools to offer. Herd Insider has an audio interview available below from Luke Beach.

Cole Bowers, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound tackle, has seen his stock go up recently, and he currently holds two offers, Marshall and West Virginia, but Virginia, with former Thundering Herd head coach Bob Pruett joining Al Groh's staff this spring as defensive coordinator, is also jumping into the mix. Where does Bowers stand in his recruitment? He has been invited to go to camp at MU, WVU, UVA and recently by Florida, and has had contacts by Penn State, Tennessee and Purdue, who landed his teammate Andrew Brewer this February.

Bowers, the nephew of former Herd tackle Rob Bowers (1981-84), reports a 350-pound max bench press, 465-pound max squat and 270-pound power clean. He also carries a 3.7 GPA in the classroom besides being an All-MSAC and All-State candidate for the Knights in the 2008 season. Bower spent the weekend of April 11-12 at Virginia, will head to Morgantown for the Mountaineer spring game April 19 and will be at the Herd's Green-White Spring Game on April 26.
