"We've watched them (Marshall) all year," GMAC Bowl representative Murray Cape told Herd Insider just moments after extending the invitation to Marshall. "They play outstanding football."
Marshall's opponent for the December 18 bowl played at Mobile, Alabama's Ladd-Peebles Stadium is still undecided. The GMAC Bowl has its choice of either C-USA or WAC teams, and is expected to announce Marshall's opponent in the coming 7-10 days.
"We always look for the two best teams," Cape continued. "That's our objective, to get the best two teams on the field and provide the best game possible."
In the 2001 GMAC Bowl, Marshall reduced a 38-8 deficit to East Carolina, staging one of the most dramatic bowl comeback wins ever in the 64-61 win. Cape said the GMAC Bowl wishes to continue the tradition of creating a quality matchup.
"We're always excited about Marshall," Cape added. "Their fans are exciting. Their fans love Mobile, and we want them all to come back."
"Every one of our bowls has been oustanding," Cape summed up of the still-young (three years) bowl game. "We've had three great games. Every one has been close and exciting. And we want to keep up the tradition."
