DeQuan Bembry Named To Frosh All-American

Marshall University freshman cornerback DeQuan Bembry has been named to CollegeFootballNews.com's Freshman All-America Team as a first-team selection. Herd Insider and CollegeFootballNews.com (cfn.scout.com) are both part of the Scout.com Network.

DeQuan Bembry, Bembry, a red-shirt-freshman from Hawkinsville, Ga., finished third on the Thundering Herd with 80 tackles this season. He led the Herd with 7.5 tackles for loss and defended 11 passes, also tops on the squad.

Bembry's first career interception came against Marshall in-state rival West Virginia in Morgantown. Earlier this week, he was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. "Bembry wasted no time showing Herd fans why he was the programs prized recruit of 2007," said cfn.scout.com writer Richard Cirminiello. "A gifted all-around athlete who plays bigger than his size."

Marshall finished 4-8 this season, but lost to East Division champion East Carolina and West Division champ Tulsa by three points in each game, both on the road and the ECU loss coming in overtime. Bembry, one of eight defensive starters returning for Marshall in the 2009 season, also helped the Herd to top team like Memphis (Magicjack St. Petersburg Bowl) and Southern Miss (R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl) as well as Houston (Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl).
