PA Tight End Commits To Marshall

Herd Insider has learned through sources in Pennsylvania that a 6-4, 255-pound tight end has committed to playing football at Marshall. This two-star tight end boasts a 4.93 forty yard dash time, as well as a 30.3" vertical leap.

Brian Shope, a 6-4, 255-pound tight end at Portage Area High School in Portage, Pennsylvania has committed to playing at Marshall, according to sources in the Keystone state. Portage Area High School is a small school of about 500 students, located midway between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.

Shope was fielding phone calls from ACC territory throughout the season, according to recruiting analyst Jamie Newberg. "Maryland called, Duke, Georgia Tech, NC State. None of them have offered me yet, though," Shope said on June 18, 2002 during an interview with Emfinger.

Shope earned accolades in 2001, making the Associated Press Small School third team offense, listed as a ‘specialist'. Shope also earned honors from as a ‘Stat Star' during the first week of the 2002 season, when Shope made an unbelievable 18 tackles playing on defense.

Shope finished the 2002 season with 102 points scored via 17 touchdowns.
