Making official visits this weekend are LB/FB Will Albin of Princeton (WV) HS and DT Jamaal Whyce of Butler County (Kansas) Community College.
Will Albin is a 6'2", 230 pound LB/FB who won the Sam Huff award for being WV's top linebacker. Albin was first team AAA all-state this past year for Princeton High as well, and according to published reports is considering Marshall, Pitt, and Penn State.
Marshall coaches may be looking at Albin as a H-back in their scheme.
The second recruit visiting is Jamaal Whyce from Butler CC in Kansas. Whyce is a teammate of recent Marshall signee Tremel Guillory. Whyce is a 6'2" 275 pound DL who is originally from Miami, Florida.
Out of high school Whyce signed with Auburn but did not meet academic requirements. This season for the champion Grizzlies, Whyce had 42 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. He was a big part of a Butler County defense that only gave up 1.6 yards per carry and only 61 yards rushing per game.
In addition, he was rated as one of the top ten defensive linemen in Florida coming out of high school in 2000. Whyce was 1st team all Jayhawk Conference while at Butler, beating out several high profile DLs who signed with big time programs for that honor. Out of high school he was recruitied and offered by Michigan State, WVU, Louisvlle and Virginia Tech. He is currently considering Mississippi State in addition to Marshall.
Herd Insider has also learned Marshall has withdrawn its scholarship offer to JUCO WR Clarence Stanfield. According to published reports, Stanfield could not gain admittance to the university for this semester.
Marshall now has 14 new verbal commitments. 2001 signee punter Klint Rose is being given a scholarship that counts toward this year. That brings the total up to 15. Herd Insider will feature two more recent verbal commitments following interviews with the players and/or their coaches over the weekend.
