Ron Blackshear gets the HI Player of the Game Award for a performance that is best not judged on total of points. Rather, it should be judged on how smart Blackshear played against KSU.
Normally one to keep hitting threes until they fall, Blackshear instead showed great reserve and 'court smarts' by dishing off the basketball to his open teammates against the Golden Flashes. Blackshear chalked up three assists in the win, yet had the presence of mind to drive to the basket instead of launching the threes late in the game.
"Ron didn't try and do it by himself," coach Greg White said. "He became a penetrate-and-dish guy, and did a great job of sharing the ball."
His 15 points may be middling for a guy accustomed to scoring 30 on any given night. However, it was Blackshear's smart play that caught the HI staff's attention.
