Terps High on Mason's List

Running back Tre Mason has what he calls "as close to a top 5" and the Terps are on it.

Running back Tre Mason is something special. Boasting a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, and a 42” vertical leap, Park Vista High School’s senior has drawn an enormous amount of interest from impressive schools across the nation. However, it is his on the field play, not his numbers, which have helped him receive his twenty six offers.

Amongst the twenty-six schools, Mason has what he calls, “as close to a top five,” as he can get. Among this list is Ole Miss, West Virginia, Penn State, Maryland, and University of Central Florida, in no particular order. He is also hoping to gage more interest from near by Florida and Miami.

Mason said, “Maryland is definitely high on my list,” when asked how the Terps compared to the other offers he has received. Although the running back has not spoken to Terp coaches in a few weeks, Mason has really liked what the coaches have told him thus far, “The coaches and I have had an excellent relationship, that is definitely going to be an important factor in my decision,” said Mason.

Mason believes he will fit in well at Maryland, “I think I can fill a lot of holes. They are loosing some senior running backs with a lot of talent, I want to step right in,” Mason explained. The Maryland coaches have been very impressed with the recruits talents; telling Mason they plan to use him all over the field, “They really like my explosion,” Mason continued, “they think I can use it to my advantage; especially in kick and punt return situations.”

An important aspect of the senior recruits decision is the possibility of success, “I want to go a place where I can play early and shine,” Mason said. He also wants strong academics, an excellent atmosphere, and a place he can be simply happy for four years while at school.

When asked what sets the running back apart on the football field, Mason quickly answered, “My vision and ability to create something out of nothing. A lot of coaches have called me unique. My speed is one of a kind. I can turn on an extra gear that gets through the holes quick, and past defenders.”

Throughout high school, Mason has studied film of players such as Reggie Bush, Percy Harvin, and Chris Johnson; whom are all notorious for making something out of nothing much like Mason. Many college coaches have told him that they would love to use him in many of the same ways these players were deployed at the college level.

Mason plans on visiting a number of schools after the football season, but has no definite plans as of now. Mason has targeted signing day for his time to make his decision, “I want to take my time, and make sure that where I choose is truly the place for me,” explained Mason.
