The Marines Charm City Challenge

Baltimore (March 24) – Charlie Weber Basketball, in association with Corrigan Sports Enterprises, announces The Marines Charm City Challenge presented by Converse will conduct a Dunk Contest and 3-Point Challenge as part of the festivities surrounding the tournament. The Dunk Contest and 3-Point Challenge will take place at Baltimore City Community College Liberty Campus at 6:30 pm on Friday, April 11.

The Dunk Contest will feature Guillermo Diaz (Miami, Fla.), who has a 50-inch vertical leap, along with local Mike Popoko (McDonogh/Stony Brook), to name a few. Tickets are $5 and available at the door only. The first 300 fans through the gate at the Dunk Contest will receive a free Converse t-shirt.

The Dunk Contest and 3-Point Challenge lead-up to The Marines Charm City Challenge on Sunday, April 13. The Challenge features two games beginning at 4 PM at the Towson Center on the campus of Towson University.

The Marines Charm City Challenge preliminary game features Suburban All-Stars coached by Baltimore Catholic League Coach of the Year Pat Clatchey (Mount St. Joseph) against City All-Stars coached by Rodney Coffield (Douglass). The nightcap features U.S. All-Stars coached by Richard Masson of Carson High School (Carson, CA) against Mike Glick's (Archbishop Spalding) Baltimore All-Star team.

Playing on the U.S. Team will be Hassan Fofana, D.J. Strawberry and Ekene Ibekwe, all committed to the University of Maryland, Gary Forbes (Virginia), Akini Adkins (Alabama), Gary Ervin (Mississippi State), Mike Nardi (Villanova), Karron Clarke (Miami), Patrick Ewing, Jr. (Indiana), Franklin Young (West Virginia) and Diaz.

The Baltimore Team features Will Bowers (Maryland), Josh Boone (UConn), Gerald Brown (Providence), Dontaye Draper (Charleston), Holden Plack (Towson), Matt Stevens (Drexel), Levi Stukes, Laronja Owens, Bryon Joynes, Kyle Garrison, the Baltimore Sun Player of the Year Maurice Barksdale and Popoko.

At halftime of the U.S. vs. Baltimore game, the SOAR Dunk Team will perform its slam-dunking entertainment show. The SOAR Dunk Team's performance combines acrobatic stunts with slam dunks. The Team has performed throughout the region including the University of Maryland.

Gates open at 2 PM with an exhibition game scheduled between The Marine taking on the 92Q Jammers beginning at 2:30 PM. Tickets for The Marines Charm City Challenge are $15 for adults, $10 for students are available by calling 410-605-9381. The first 1,000 fans in attendance for The Marines Charm City Challenge will receive a free Converse t-shirt.
