Location, Location, Location for Lewis

For 2011 prospect Greg Lewis, location will play a key role in where he goes to school.

Family. Conference. Proximity. These are three factors that will drive St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) prospect Greg Lewis’ decision on where he will play college basketball, one he plans to make before his high school season begins.

Maryland, Rutgers and South Florida are the final three schools on the 6-foot-8, 225 pound center’s list. Lewis says the choice between the three will be very tough.

“Right now, they are all on the same level,” he said.

The biggest draw to Maryland that Lewis sees, as he has throughout his recruiting process, is its proximity to Baltimore. “Going to Maryland is being home. I’d be really close to my family.”

For Rutgers and South Florida, the advantages lie in their conference affiliation.

“Rutgers is away, but not that far away for my family, and its in the Big East. South Florida is also in the Big East and conference means a lot to me.”

As for the Terps, assistant coach Orlando “Bino” Ranson has been in contact with Lewis and has expressed how much he would like to see him in College Park.

“He has been talking about just me being able to come in as a freshman and have a big impact. I’d be able to get quality minutes.”

Lewis says he plans on visiting College Park in the near future. While no date has been set in stone, he hopes his visit will be some time next week.

While Lewis says conference and how much use he can be to a team are important factors in his decision, the school he chooses will be based on the best location for his family and himself.

“When I make my decision before the season starts, I’m going to do it based on family. I want my family to be able to come to my games. But, in the end, its my decision.”
