2012 guard has Terps in mix

2012 guard James Robinson likes Terps coaching staff but is keeping options open

James Robinson from Dematha Catholic High School is the No. 8 point guard of the 2012 class on Scout.com and has a great preparation for the game of basketball.

Robinson has been training hard and working out early in the mornings with his Dematha teammates during their preseason getting ready for the season.

“I’m working on my all around game,” Robinson said. “Working on the little things, and really breaking it down so that when it comes season time, I’ll be prepared.”

Robinson is working out four days a week starting at 6 a.m. with his teammates. His afternoons are spent in the weight room, and nights on the court working on developing his skills.

Playing with guys like Duke-commit Michael Gbinije on his AAU team, Team Takeover, Robinson is displaying his talents playing with the best players in the state.

“It’s really great playing against those guys, they’re tough,” said Robinson. “It’s a lot of fun and makes the game a lot easier for myself having such talented players around me.”

Robinson is drawing interest from many schools, including; Georgetown, Notre Dame, Villanova, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, but he is keeping all his options open.

“All the schools have really been great,” Robinson said, “but really I just need to sit down with my family and get into more detail about each one.”

He has made unofficial visits to most of these schools, but couldn’t make the trip to College Park due to scheduling. He plans to make a visit in the spring.

Robinson spoke briefly with coach Gary Williams when he came to see a Dematha workout and has also enjoyed conversations with assistant coach Robert Ehsan.

“I do like their style, and I like coach Williams and coach Ehsan,” said Robinson. “They’re really great guys. I am going to look there, but definitely other places as well.”

Robinson is keeping up with a lot of his teammates from Dematha that are playing in college now. He’s getting to hear about school and basketball at the next level from Naji Hibbert (Texas A&M), Jerian Grant (Notre Dame), Victor Oladipo (Indiana) and Derrick Banks (Morgan St.).

Robinson is starting to hear of a few offers, but he lets his father and the coaching staff at Dematha handle those.

When it comes down to decision time, Robinson will be looking for, “all around factors; good academics, good social setting for me, and a good coaching staff that can really get the best out of me at practice so come game time; be prepared.”
