Kouandjio Likes Coaching Staff

Terps hope Kouandjio's relationship with coaching staff will pay off in the end.

Although Dematha (Hyattsville, Md.) senior OT Cyrus Kouandjio hasn’t compiled a top five list yet, he said he was impressed with Maryland.

“They’re pretty good right now,” Kouandjio said. “They picked it up from last year.”

He has been developing a relationship with Offensive Coordinator James Franklin, who checked in with Kouandjio last weekend.

Kouandjio said he liked the energy among people on Maryland’s campus when he visited earlier this year. He added that he liked the Terps’ facilities as well, but noted that this wouldn’t factor much into his final college decision.

According to Kouandjio, relationship with coaching staff will factor most heavily into his choice.

“I like what [Maryland coaches] did when my friend Pete DeSouza got hurt,” Kouandjio said. “I heard the coaches were behind him 100 percent. Coach Friedgen and his family went over there to say what’s up. All the coaches went there.”

Kouandjio added that, while he has quick feet and is “very powerful,” he noted that he needs to learn how to use his hands a lot more before he takes the next step.
