2012 Intro- Da'Quan Davis

TSR introduces you to 2012 prospect Da'Quan Davis. Davis is a cornerback from Calvert Hall

How did the season go?

We finished #1 in the state poll. We we're conference champs. I had All-Conference and All-State honors.

What were your stats this season?

I had 40+ tackles, 6 interceptions, 15 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and only 3 catches allowed on the season. I was invited to both the U.S. Army All American & Under Armour All American Combines.

How was the Badger 7 on 7 Tournament?

I played for Team Dream, we finished 2nd. We lost in the championship by 1 on some controversial calls. We went undefeated the entire tournament until that game. The team we played had a 30-minute break while we played two straight close games. But it is what it is. We are going to nationals in Alabama in June. We are also heading out to Vegas next month for UNLV's version of this tournament. I balled out. I had a lot of buzz about me. People were giving me the best corner there tag, and I wasn't even 100%. I was playing with an injured groin and broken middle toe. Icy/Hot, Rest, Icing and some Ibuprofen did the trick for me.

What are you working on most this off-season?

Getting bigger, faster, stronger. I have no official 40 yet, but I can cover just about any receiver on deep routes and I've proved it. Adding muscle mass is important to take on the bigger backs and receivers I'll have to face at the next level. I also want to work on my overall understanding of the game, reading receivers routes and understanding coverages.

What are you looking to major in?

Communications, Sports Management, Marine Biology or Forensic Science

Growing up were you a Terp fan?

Of course,. Who doesn't like their home town team as a kid? I used to watch guys like Vernon Davis and Dominique Foxworth play there. An offer from Maryland would be a God send.

Would the Terps be in your Top 3 if they offered?

I have no particular top schools but WVU is definitely my #1. I remember Steve Slaton wanting to go to Maryland but they didn't want him and he ended up breaking records at WVU. I hope Maryland doesn't miss out on a chance at me. I plan on doing great things while staying as hungry and humble as possible.

Is there a player in the NFL or college that you would say you emulate your game after?

Nope, just myself. I have so many aspects to my game I wouldn't compare me ot no one but myself. I am a technician. I pride myself on having great feet and coverage skills. I also have a physical side to me where I like to get in receivers face and come up in run support. I am very smart on the field. I read receivers route tendencies, places QB's like to throw and I have great awareness on the field. I like to stay active on the field and stay around the ball. I try to be as well rounded as possible.

Have you been to the Maryland campus before?

Nope, not once

What was it like going up against some of the best WR's this weekend?

It was great. I had some of the best receivers in Deontay McManus and Trevor Williams on my team, but I got to go against a stud fro VA by the name of Romond Deloatch and got the best of him on a jump ball in the end-zone. For a 5'11 corner against a 6'4 receiver, that's pretty good. He's an animal though.

Is distance a factor in the school you choose?

Not at all. I don't go off big named schools or uniform stuff either. I want to go where they'll groom me for four years to God willingly have a shot at the NFL. A place where I will develop as a student-athlete and have a chance at the full college experience.

What are you looking for in a program?

I don't want to be just another name on a recruiting board. I want to have a chance to play. I want to go where I fit in their defensive schemes and I have to have a great coaching staff surrounding me.

“One last thing, a wise man once told me that you can never be bigger than this game of football. I wasn't always what I am now but I have an unmatched work ethic. There's no way I will let this process go to my head. Da'Quan Davis will always stay hungry and humble no matter what.
