Clay Impressed With Maryland

2013 running back Roman Clay, out of Lancaster (PA) Catholic, is averaging over 11 yards a carry this season.

Roman Clay is one of the top running backs in Pennsylvania for 2013. In just three games, he's rushed for 470 yards, averaging over 11 yards a carry. He's also scored seven touchdowns, as his team heads into a showdown with East Pennsboro this Friday.

So far, Clay has taken two unofficial visits—to Maryland for the season-opener against Miami, and this past weekend to Rutgers. There's a lot to like about Maryland for Clay.

"It's a really great program," Clay said. "If they offered me, I'd consider them as an option. Their facilities are great, and the coaching staff amazing."

Is he expecting an offer to come from the Terps' coaching staff?

"I'm not really sure yet, I'd have to ask them," Clay said. "They're showing interest, but I'm pretty sure on their radar."

Clay is also a fan of the new uniforms—as many prospects have commented on in recent weeks.

"They all look really cool," Clay said. "They showed all the combinations on the visit, over 30. Their uniforms are insane."

Clay was at Rutgers' win over Ohio University this past Saturday.

"They actually have really good program for running backs; they do pretty good," Clay said. "It's a really cool place to go. I haven't really heard much interest from them. The most interest I've been getting is from Maryland."

Clay says he's also heard from Oregon and Vanderbilt. In fact, on a whim, he sent the Oregon coaching staff one of his highlight videos. A trip to Oregon is a possibility.

"In the distant future, we're planning on heading out to Oregon some time," Clay said. "I sent the coaches a tape, and they really liked it. They said I'm one of their prospects they want to keep an eye on. I'm coming out this year for an unofficial."

Maryland assistant John Dunn is the coach in charge of his recruitment.
