Checking In with 2013 OT Marcell Lazard

TSR checks in with Bloomfield HS OT Marcell Lazard to see how recruiting is going.

How did the season go for you?

“It went well, we went 6-2 but we didn't make the playoffs because we didn't have enough power points.”

What schools do you hold offers from?

“University of Virginia, University of Connecticut, Maryland, Buffalo.”

What kind of contact have you had with Maryland since recruiting process has started?

“A lot of contact, mainly from the offensive line coach (Coach Bratton).”

Have you talked at all with Coach Edsall?

“No not yet, we tried to get up to a game this year but with my schedule and my parents work schedule, we were not able to get up to games but we are going to try to next year.”

What is your overall interest right now in Maryland?

“Very high. I really like it. It is close to home.”

What do you like about Maryland?

“The whole atmosphere down there. What Coach Edsall is going to do with the program. I know they didn't have the best year this year but usually they are a contender in the ACC.”

Have you visited the campus at all?

What position are the schools recruiting you as?

“Offensive tackle.”

How would you describe yourself as a player?

“Physical, I have pretty good feet. I am very good at pass protection. I have improved tremendously in my run blocking from last year. I am finishing blocks. Actually a lot of the coaches have told me and my coach that they are seeing a lot of difference in my play from last year to this year. I am more physical with my blocks and pass protection. There is no d-end that can get around me. I am not going to lie to you. I am a very good pass protector.”

Does that play a role in the school you are looking at, are you looking for a pass oriented offense?

“Yes, I am.”

Is there a guy in the college or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

“Yes, Jake Long is definitely a guy I try to pattern my game on.”

What are you looking for in a program?

“I am looking for a team with a great coaching staff. A coaching staff that will be there for a while. A school that has what I want to major in and a school that is on the winning side.”

What are you going to be working on in the offseason?

“I want to increase my bench press max and I just want to get a little bit more flexible.”

What do you bring to the program you choose?

“I bring being a competitor, hard work, and a leader to the team.”
