"Virginia and Marshall are probably my leaders," says the 5-foot-10, 170 pound four star player. "My brother is at Marshall, so I know a lot about them, and I have followed them. Virginia just requested my transcripts from last spring, so I know they are interested."
With Virginia seemingly on the verge of an offer, Royal is still interested in the other in-state school, and does not want to limit his options.
"I really like Virginia Tech as well. With them moving into the ACC, that will only help them out by playing in a great conference."
South Carolina is also recruiting Royal, but he has yet to receive any of their information.
"They are sending mail to Chantilly High School for me. I live in Chantilly, but I do not go there. I hope we can get that fixed soon."
Maryland is still high on Royal's list, and if they offered, he could place them among his favorites.
One award sticks out when referring to Royal, and that is 2003 Blacksburg Nike Camp MVP. One word sticks out when referring to him as well, and that is speed. A blazing runner, Royal can take any reception for a touchdown, which scares most teams into playing more of a prevent defense, which only helps teammate Sean Glennon's completion rate. Royal had 48 recs for 905 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. He also ran back five kicks for touchdowns. Royal was named 2nd Team AP AAA All-State as a junior.
