He is an impressive quarterback on film. Steffy, from Lancaster (Pa.) Valley High School is a mobile quarterback with a lively arm. He has good size (6-2, 205) and runs pretty well. He is quicker than he is fast and is hard to bring down in the pocket. Steffy can run the option and is a very good runner with the ball. He throws a great deep ball and has pretty good arm strength to execute the hard throws like the deep out. Steffy shows good pocket presence and can make a big play with his arm or legs. When things break down, he finds his second or third option or he can tuck the ball and run with it. Last season as a junior, Steffy completed 65% of his passes for 2,178 yards and 21 touchdown passes. He also rushed for over 600 yards and 12 more scores.
"I consider myself a student of the game," Steffy said. "I do a lot of film watching and things kind of comes easy to me. I have been playing the position about five years now. My versatility really helps and I am not a one dimensional QB because I can run the ball when teams play good coverage against us."
According to Steffy, he has 32 scholarship offers from such schools as Michigan State, North Carolina, Michigan State and likely Michigan.
"That was a great experience for me because I got to see a bunch of schools at once and I could compare all these schools because everything was fresh in my mind. I really liked Maryland, Clemson and Virginia Tech. I love coach Franklin (recruiting coordinator) at Maryland and I would love to play for Coach (Ralph) Friedgen. Plus, they run a similar offense to ours. Clemson was impressive too. I really like their campus and their offense. I also love the coaching staff at Virginia Tech. I'm also considering Michigan State and Syracuse."
