Projected Position on Depth Chart: Backup wide receiver
The rundown: Jacobs is a three-star freshman wide receiver that enrolled in classes for the spring semester this year. At Milford Academy in 2011, Jacobs broke a school record with eight touchdown receptions in eight games. Jacobs is a very fast receiver who has been clocked at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash and can be hard to catch in the open field. He was supposed to play at Marshall, where he had committed back in high school before going to prep school, but decided to play for the Terrapins after receiving a scholarship last year.
Expectations for 2012: Jacobs finds himself on a roster with a lot of talent at wide receiver and will have to fight for a starting position. Jacobs has the advantage of spending the spring with the Terps and may see some playing time next year. Out of the true freshmen receivers, Jacobs and Diggs have the greatest shot of seeing the field next season. Jacobs is behind senior Kerry Boykins at the A wide receiver position, but Diggs could take that starting receiver spot sometime during the season. Jacobs will most likely play as a reserve wide receiver his first year and may see some action on special teams as well.
