Projected Position on Depth Chart: Starting tackle
The rundown: Klemm played in six games on the offensive line last season as a reserve tackle and as a contributor on special teams. As a redshirt freshman, he played in 11 games as a reserve right tackle and on special teams. Klemm has been a great contributor off the bench in his career and can play both tackle positions. He began his career as a Terp playing on the defensive line before switching to the other side of the ball.
Expectations for 2012: With former left tackle starter Justin Gilbert listed as the starting right guard, Klemm is in possession of the starting left tackle spot in front of freshmen Ryan Doyle (redshirt freshman) and Mike Madaras. Klemm's experience puts him above Madaras right now, but Madaras could take over the starting role later in the season. Also of note is Gilbert's health. If Gilbert goes down during the season again, either Madaras or Klemm could move to right tackle position with the other staying at left. Klemm is the starter for now and should hold onto the spot going into the regular season, though Madaras is the future of the offensive line.
