Hometown: Wilmington, Del.
Class: Redshirt Freshman
Height & Weight: 6-foot-5, 285 pounds
Projected Position on Depth Chart: Backup center
The rundown: Mulrooney served a redshirt season last year and will be a backup center going into this year's campaign. Mulrooney is athletic and does a good job at run blocking and opening up holes for the ball carrier but can improve on his pass protection. As a senior in high school in 2010, Mulrooney was a first team all-state selection and was ranked as the 15th best center in the country. He led his team to the state semi-finals in his senior year after winning it all his junior year and helped his offense average over 300 yards and 30 points per game.
Expectations for 2012: Sal Conaboy is the starter at center during the preseason and if he isn't for the regular season, former starter Bennett Fulper will move from guard to take over. Mulrooney is still considered a project, but should see some action this season if he does ends up in the backup position. He should not expect to get too much playing time, however, as the Terps seem like they're willing to wait another year or two before fully implementing Mulrooney into the offensive line.
