Meet the Terps Offense: #36 Ryan Schlothauer

College Park, MD. - TSR gets you acclimated with the 2012 Terps, first looking at the offense.

Player: Ryan Schlothauer

Hometown: Baltimore, Md.

Class: Senior

Height & Weight: 6-foot-5, 260 pounds

Projected Position on Depth Chart: Backup tight end

The rundown: A fifth-year backup tight end, Schlothauer has played in 25 games dating back to The Opening game of his sophomore season. Last season, he played in all 12 games as a reserve tight end and as a contributor on special teams. He hasn't had a catch yet as a tight end but returned three kicks for 32 yards last season. With his size, Schlothauer is used primarily for blocking when playing the tight end position.

Expectations for 2012: Schlothauer is the third tight end on the preseason depth chart with seniors Matt Furstenburg and Devonte Campbell in front of him so he most likely will not see too much action at the tight end spot. If he does, it will mostly be for blocking purposes as there are no indications that Schlothauer can be a consistent pass catcher. He should still get a good amount of playing time on special teams next season.
