Meet the Terps Defense: #3 Roman Braglio

College Park, MD. - TSR gets you acclimated with the 2012 Terps by taking a look at the defense.

Player: Roman Braglio

Hometown: Owings Mills, Md.

Class: Freshman

Height & Weight: 6-foot-3, 240 pounds

Projected Position on Depth Chart: Backup linebacker

The rundown: Braglio was recruited to play defensive line for the Terps, but with the change to a 3-4 base defense, he may be getting looked at more as a linebacker. In his senior season at McDonough High, Braglio had 83 tackles and 16 sacks as a defensive end. A three-star recruit, Braglio was ranked as the 67th best defensive end in the nation by Scout.com. From an outside linebacker position in a 3-4 defense, Braglio will be able to use his skills of pressuring the quarterback to create sacks or force turnovers.

Expectations for 2012: Maryland head coach Randy Edsall hinted that Braglio may be able to earn some playing time this season. His chances of starting are very slim, barring any injuries to the linebacker corps, and is listed as the last option at the “Will” linebacker position behind Darin Drakeford. Braglio could potentially redshirt this season, but he will be given a fair shot to compete for some playing time this season if he chooses not to.
