Meet the Terps Defense: #6 Nate Clarke

College Park, MD. - TSR gets you acclimated with the 2012 Terps by taking a look at the defense.

Player: Nate Clarke

Hometown: Washington, D.C.

Class: Redshirt Freshman

Height & Weight: 6-foot-3, 300 pounds

Projected Position on Depth Chart: Backup defensive tackle

The rundown: Clarke was an offensive lineman for the Terps before making the switch to defensive tackle this spring. In his redshirt season last year, Clarke played at offensive guard, earning offensive scout team player of the week twice, once in the week before the game against Towson and once before the Virginia game. Clarke is a very strong and physical lineman and can use his size to dominate smaller offensive linemen.

Expectations for 2012: Clarke will be battling for a spot at defensive tackle next season. A.J. Francis and Darius Kligo will be the starting and backup tackles, leaving Alex Walker and Nate Clarke to battle for the third spot. Clarke has a very physical style of play but he is still relatively new to the position at the college level. With two players already ahead of him on the depth chart, Clarke will have a hard time seeing the field next season.
