Hometown: Washington, D.C.
Height & Weight: 6-foot-1, 185 pounds
Projected Position on Depth Chart: Backup strong safety
The rundown: Davis is a freshman that was recruited by the Terps out of a smaller school, the Maret School in D.C. He was listed as a three-star recruit and the 57th-ranked cornerback in his class by Scout.com. In his senior season, Davis had 162 tackles, three interceptions, one interception returned for a touchdown and three forced fumbles. On special teams, he also had three kick returns for touchdowns and two punt returns for touchdowns. Davis is a fast player but also has size and strength, making him very dangerous in the secondary.
Expectations for 2012: Many people thought Davis would be a cornerback for the Terps and the option is still there. But for now, Davis is listed as a strong safety behind starter Matt Robinson and senior Clarence Claiborne. Davis has the physical traits to succeed at the college level and it would not be too surprising to see him take the backup spot over Claiborne sometime during the season and get a spot in third-down nickel packages. Claiborne's experience may give him the edge going into the regular season, but Davis' talent is very intriguing to the coaching staff. Davis could also see playing time on special teams, though he probably will not be a returner for the Terps.
