Meet the Terps Defense: #21 Darius Kilgo

College Park, MD. - TSR gets you acclimated with the 2012 Terps by taking a look at the defense.

Player: Darius Kilgo

Hometown: Charlotte, N.C.

Class: Sophomore

Height & Weight: 6-foot-3, 300 pounds

Projected Position on Depth Chart: Starting defensive tackle

The rundown: Kilgo is a very large presence on the defensive line that can take more than one blockers with his size and strength. As a redshirt freshman last year, Kilgo played in five games as a reserve defensive lineman, seeing his first career action against Towson. He finished the season with five total tackles with four of them being solo tackles. He had a career-high two tackles against both Florida State and Boston College.

Expectations for 2012: Kilgo had an impressive training camp this summer where he earned the starting nose tackle position, giving Maryland head coach Randy Edsall confidence to move A.J. Francis over from nose tackle to defensive end on the other side of Joe Vellano. With the defensive linemen starting the season off lacking depth due to injuries, Kilgo could be asked to play even more downs than he expected. Kilgo will be making a large jump from a reserve position to the starting job, but Edsall and the rest of the coaches all believe that Kilgo will be able to hold his own this season.
