Meet the Terps Defense: #24 Matt Robinson

College Park, MD. - TSR gets you acclimated with the 2012 Terps by taking a look at the defense.

Player: Matt Robinson

Hometown: Columbia, Md.

Class: Sophomore

Height & Weight: 6-foot-3, 225 pounds

Projected Position on Depth Chart: Starting strong safety

The rundown: Robinson is an athletic defender who has experience playing and starting for the the Terps. Last season, Robinson started in the first three games of the season but suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Against Miami, Robinson had a then career high of 10 tackles before setting a new career high of 13 tackles against West Virginia, including a career-best two tackles for loss and two pass breakups. Against Temple the following week, Robinson matched his career high with another 13 tackles.

Expectations for 2012: Robinson started the offseason with high expectations given his performance last season, but an injury to his other shoulder will force him to miss some time. At the very least, Robinson will not play in the regular season opener against William & Mary and will be replaced by freshman Sean Davis. Even if Davis plays well, Robinson's job is not in jeopardy as long as he can return healthy and if he can stay that way throughout the season, Robinson should definitely be able to improve
