Burkett Switches Commitment to Terps

After previously committing to FIU, 2013 DE Chandler Burkett joins a defense-heavy Maryland class.

2013 defensive end prospect Chandler Burkett formally committed to Maryland Jan. 15 after de-committing from Florida International in December.

The Florida native rescinded his commitment after FIU fired its head coach Mario Cristobal. Burkett also had offers from Florida Atlantic and Troy, but the 6-foot-4, 220-pound three star prospect was thought to be heavily considering Maryland, who offered first.

After his commitment opened up, Maryland contacted Burkett and quickly arranged a couple visits.

"He did take a visit [to Maryland] over the weekend and coach [Lyndon] Johnson came to visit with his family; he committed to Maryland [Tuesday]," said Head Coach Loren Tillman of Deane Bozeman, Burkett's high school.

Burkett is the fourth defensive lineman to join Randy Edsall's 2013 class. Burkett recorded more than 100 tackles for Bozeman last season and is now part of a defensive-minded recruiting class for Maryland, as 11 of the 20 commits play on the defensive side of the ball.
