Mustipher impressed by Terps after visit
Sam Mustipher, is one of the top offensive lineman in the region, and the 6-foot-3, 286-pound junior has over 20 offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan, and Maryland. Mustipher was on campus for Maryland's junior day on Feb. 16, and the experience left a strong impression on him.
"I would have to say, that visit [to Maryland] has probably been my favorites so far," said Mustipher. "I really want to play for someone who believes in my talent and I definitely felt like he [Locksley] believes in me and what I could do there."
Mustipher and the rest of the prospects on campus for Maryland's junior day were in attendance for the basketball game that night as the Terrapins knocked off the second-ranked Blue Devils, 83-81.
"It was a great game and the environment was really something special," said Mustipher. "Just being able to see such a great game and the fans, it was definitely something that stood out to me. I even got a video of the fans rushing the court."
The environment was not the only thing to impress Mustipher, he also got a chance to check out the Terps new lockers and Under Armour gear.
The new Under Armour stuff is really cool, it adjusts to your body temperature, it was some pretty interesting stuff," said Mustipher. "I think the relationship Maryland has with Under Armor is something a lot of other school don't have and I think it is really great for that program."
Mustipher says he talks frequently with Head Coach Randy Edsall, but his visit allowed him to talk more with Offensive Line Coach Tom Brattan and Offensive Coordinator Mike Locksley.
"Before I got there, I talked to Coach Edsall a lot, but I had not really gotten to talk to Coach Locksley as much," said Mustipher. "We had a really good conversation, he talked about how I would fit into the offense and [Locksley] thinks I have the potential to come in and have an impact right away, even start my freshman year, which was something really big for me."
With over 20 offers Mustipher has already visited a handful of schools, but his visit to College Park has left a strong impression.
"I had a great visit," said Mustipher. "I have been out to the school a lot, but I got the chance to talk with some more of the coaches and go to a game."
While Mustipher is not planning to make any decisions just yet, he hopes to narrow his list of schools down early this spring.
