Wilkins Has Two at the Top

St Joseph's-Montvale (N.J.) High two-way lineman Kevin Wilkins has busy been this spring hitting college campuses and his recruitment continues to pick up steam…

St Joseph's-Montvale (N.J.) High two-way lineman Kevin Wilkins recently picked up an offer from UCF and he could be closing in on a few more.

"Things are going really well, UCF just offered so that was pretty cool," said the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Wilkins. "I have been getting a lot of interest from Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Syracuse too."

"The Virginia Tech coach really likes me he said I am his No.1 lineman that he is recruiting," Wilkins said. "So I think I could be getting an offer from them next week."

He continued, "I also think I could get an offer from Syracuse next week too, " Wilkins said. "They like my agility and they wanted to come up and see me do some agility work, ladder drills, pulling, hand technique all that kind of stuff. They were really fascinated by how quick I move and my hand speed."

Wilkins is already somewhat familiar with Virginia Tech and said he has a solid relationship with offensive line coach Jeff Grimes.

"The offensive line coach said he really likes me, especially because I wrestle too because he is looking for athletic lineman," Wilkins said. "One of my best friends used to go to Virginia Tech, so he used to tell me a lot about it. He really liked it a lot."

Wilkins said several other schools have also been by to see him work out including Temple and Michigan State.

Wilkins took some time out of his rigorous workout schedule to make a trip to Connecticut and he was blown away with what he saw.

"It was an awesome time, I got to talk to all the coaches and get a feel for how they do things," Wilkins said. "We didn't go around the entire campus but they showed us the football facilities and they were phenomenal. "

He added, "I have never seen anything like it, literally weight room is bigger than my entire school its crazy."

After his tour of campus Wilkins got a chance to see the Huskies practice.

"They get after it just like Maryland does," Wilkins said. "There is no difference between both the schools."

Wilkin's visit to UConn definitely moved the Huskies up the list, but that doesn't mean Wilkins is moving Maryland down.

"I would say Maryland and UConn are definitely both tied for No. 1 on my right now," Wilkins said. "Then Virginia Tech if they offer, UCF and Boston College."

Wilkins said his list really comes down to his relationship with the coaches at each of the schools.

"It all comes down to if II get that family feeling with the players and the coaches," Wilkins said. "My one coach now, we have a brother relationship but at the same time when its time to get work down, we get work done."

He continued, "I respect him as a coach and he respects me as a player, but we have a close relationship off the field too," Wilkins said. "So that is really what I am looking for in college, I want to be able to talk to the coaches, have a good relationship with them and not worry about being scared to talk to them. "

Wilkins said he got that family feeling at Maryland and has a great relationship with his recruiter Keith Dudzinski, which is part of the reason the Terps are so high on his list.

"I feel like I can already tell if I were to go there we would have a great relationship."

In the meantime Wilkins said he definitely wants to take a few more visits before making any decisions.

"I know UCF wants me to get out there," Wilkins said. "If Syracuse and Virginia Tech offer next week I should be taking visits those visits soon or over the summer."
