East Region Notes

A look at the latest new in the East Region as it relates to the Terps...

Well it looks like Council Rock High South (Holland, Pa.) offensive lineman Eric Gallo will not be following his brother's footsteps to Maryland, the younger Gallo made a recent visit to Virginia Tech, and saw everything he wanted to. Gallo committed to the Hokies and will play either center or guard for them.

Maryland made the cut for Dwight Morrow High (Englewood, N.J.) receiver/cornerback Juwann Winfree. Winfree made an initial cut to his list and it was lengthy, but Maryland, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, Kansas, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan State, Virginia and Boston College are all still in the mix. Winfree is a huge fan of Stefon Diggs so that could give an added boost to the Terps.

He added he would trim his list to "eight or so" before his senior season, but offers continue to come in. He added a Washington State offer Wednesday.

The offers continue to roll in for Friendly High (Fort Washington, Md.) cornerback Alameen Murphy, who recently picked up an offer from Maryland. This week he added an offer from Maryland's future Big Ten foe Rutgers. Murphy also holds offers from Arizona, Georgia Tech, Harvard, Maryland, Stanford, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

Speaking of the Big Ten, Hyattsville, Md. DeMatha Catholic OL Brock Ruble added an offer from Purdue this week.

Michigan State offered Gilman School (Baltimore) four-star linebacker Melvin Keihn and cornerback Kai Locksley, who also holds offers from Maryland and Florida State.

Wisconsin joined the long list of schools to offer Middletown (Md.) High defensive end Ricky Leonard, who continues to be one of the region's hottest prospects and a key target for the Terps.
