10 in 10: Maryland vs. FIU

TurtleSportsReport.com post-game package goes much deeper than the stats and the nuts and bolts of the game. The "10 in 10" feature has 10 not-so-noticeable notes that each can be read in 10 seconds or less. Check out this feature and you will turn heads during your water-cooler post game talk.

An inside look an the not-so-noticeable things that took place during Maryland's 43-10 win against Florida International Saturday.

It is designed for each of the 10 quick-hitters to read in 10 seconds or less. Here are the 10 from the game Saturday.

1. Diggs' SportsCenter Catch -- Sophomore wide receiver Stefon Diggs stretched out to make a one-handed catch, mid-turn during the first quarter right around midfield. Why did he have to make such a tough catch? Ryan Doyle got run over and C.J. Brown was hit hard on the play. Thus the reason Brown mostly opted for quick drops Saturday.

2. Trouble with Tackles -- While Maryland held FIU to just 10 points, it wasn't all good on defense. The Terps struggled to wrap up their tackles, including on the Panthers' only touchdown. L.A. Goree got his hands on Lamarq Caldwell, but couldn't finish, allowing FIU to end in the endzone.

3. Riser Returns -- Houston transfer Zeke Riser was on the sidelines yesterday, no brace, no crutches. Head coach Randy Edsall said he should be back in a week or two and will be in the defensive rotation.

4. Un-Likley -- True freshman Will Likely fumbled a punt during the first quarter. Edsall said after another coach made the decision to put Likely in, a decision that Coach did not have the power to make apparently.

5. Second times a charm -- If you tuned out after Maryland went up 40-10 at halftime, you missed Will Likely going out to return a punt during the fourth quarter. It was a fair catch, but better then a fumble.

6. Stopped in their tracks -- While Maryland's passing game looked good, the run game struggled. Brown accounted for nearly half of the Terps rushing yards. Brandon Ross and Albert Reid, Maryland's top two backs, only picked up 84 yards on 18 carries.

7. Big Debut -- True freshman Cavon Walker, Moise Larose, Yannick Ngakoue, Jacquille Veii, and Will Likely, all saw action during their first game yesterday.

8. Third Down Troubles -- Maryland was 4-13 on third down conversions yesterday, not a problem against FIU…but against a legitimate opponent that won't cut it.

9. C.J.'s Arm -- In 2011, quarterback C.J. Brown made his mark on the ground. During his return, Brown showed significant improvement with his passing game. He was 20-for-23 for 281 yards, behind a very pedestrian line.

10. J.J.'s Footwear -- Cornerback Isaac Goins got a lot of playing time in the second half yesterday. While many attributed it to the score it was actually because starting corner Jeremiah Johnson was in a walking boot after the game. We will have to wait until Monday to see the injury report. (I play on rewatching the game later today so I might be able to spot it).
