Though class of 2015 wing Jordan Murphy (Brennan/San Antonio, Texas) has been tearing up the Adidas AAU circuit lately, it's been fairly quiet in terms of his recruitment. Terrapin Times spoke to Brennan head coach Tommy Hines to get an update.
"Jordan talked things over with his family, and they've decided to take it slow with the recruiting," said Hines. "Jordan wants to take his official visits in the fall when school is in session. He doesn't feel like visiting campuses during the summer would give him an accurate feel for what the school is all about. So they're going to wait."
Hines said Murphy, who plays for the D1 Ambassadors AAU program, will be busy this summer.
"He'll be playing on the Adidas circuit," said Hines. "They have another tournament coming up next week I believe, and that's in Orlando. He's been invited to Adidas Nation, and also their Superstar Camp. In late July Jordan will be in Las Vegas for the Fab 48 tournament. He's going to pretty busy."
Murphy had a "monster year" for Brennan, according to Hines.
"Yes, Jordan led our team in just about every category," said Hines. "He averaged about 25 points and 12 rebounds, and led us in steals and assists as well. We got to the regional quarterfinals and lost, but we were a young team and everyone will be back. I'm hoping we can go farther next year."
Hines said that Murphy, now up to 6-feet-7 and 212 punds, has a long list of suitors, but several schools are standing out at the moment.
"Jordan's being recruited as a 3 man, or a 3/2 type player," said Hines. "Right now I'd say Maryland, Texas A&M and Creighton are standing out. Those schools have made him a priority, and I think it's a safe bet he'll visit those three for sure in the fall. Coach (Mark) Turgeon and Coach (Dustin) Clark have been consistent with their attention. They feel like Jordan would be a good fit on and off the court there."
Other schools that have offered Murphy include Baylor, Marquette, Vanderbilt, Texas, SMU, Minnesota and Oklahoma.
