COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Terps secured a commitment from Fort Hill (Cumberland, Md.) athlete Ty Johnson at a one-day camp June 8. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder picked up the offer while on campus and pledged to Maryland soon after. The 4.36 40-yard dash speedster was going to wait a day to think things over, but after speaking to head coach Randy Edsall he decided not to delay the inevitable.
"Just the experience down here, the coaches, just being on campus and being around all this talent, I felt like this is the place I wanted to spend my next four years. I really can't wait to be a Terp and this is a huge honor for me and it's huge for my school and area as well," Johnson said. "I was talking to Coach Edsall and he was talking about how much he liked my speed and versatility and how I can really help the program there. He wants me back down there at the end of June to go over some academic things. I'm considering graduating early."
Last year Johnson, who is being recruited as an athlete (running back, slot, corner, kick returner), piled up 1,817 total yards and 23 touchdowns. He averaged 17.4 yards per carry, while he also had 10 interceptions on defense and a return touchdown. Johnson took one kick back to the house as well.
