National Hoops Festival Eval: Markelle Fultz

Here is an evaluation of shooting guard Markelle Fultz from the National High School Hoops Festival at DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.)

Player: Markelle Fultz
School: DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.)
Position: SG
Height: 6-4
Class: 2016

Fultz is one of the more amazing recruiting stories of the recent past. He actually played on the DeMatha jayvee team as a sophomore, but has since made a meteoric rise on the recruiting lists, and is now regarded by most as a potential top 50 recruit in the class of 2016.

It's easy to see why he's so highly regarded after watching him this weekend against a strong Chaminade (Missouri) squad, which features the nation's No. 1 junior in 6-8 Jayson Tatum. Fultz does a lot of things well, but make no mistake, this lanky junior is wired to score. He runs the floor like a gazelle, gets to the rim with authority, and unlike many high schoolers, possesses a deadly mid-range game, with a feathery touch around the rim, while also being able to be a factor from around the arc.

Another positive note is that Fultz is just now beginning to grow into his body. He's still thin but has a frame that will fill out in time. Fultz scored 16 points in the one point DeMatha victory, and was big down the stretch after a slow start. We consider Fultz the No. 1 wing guard prospect in the DMV, and one of the better wings in the country. As he gets stronger, we expect his stock to grow even more. Maryland is one of many offers that Fultz has received in recent months. Suffice to say, many more will be forthcoming.
