National Hoops Festival Evaluation: V.J. King

Here is an evaluation of forward V.J. King from the National High School Hoops Festival at DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.)

Player: V.J. King
School: Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.)
Position: SF
Height: 6-7
Class: 2016

King transferred to Paul VI from a school in Ohio, and this is one smooth operator. He's a long 6-7, likely still growing, and is one of the more fluid athletes you will see. He has some guard skills, but most likely projects as a bonafide three-man in college.

The Panthers were overmatched against powerful Oak Hill Dec. 13, but King did his part, scoring 18 points, and becoming more aggressive as the game wore on. King has an evenly balanced offensive repertoire. He can create quite well off the bounce, but also has a great touch from the arc. We'd like to see him a bit more aggressive, but that will come in time.

King came to Paul VI with a huge reputation nationally, and we saw why. He'll get nothing but better as he acclimates himself into Coach Glenn Farello's system, and gets to know his teammates better. Already, many of the nation's powerhouses have extended offers to King, and Maryland is obviously interested as well, but he'll be a really tough get. But, along with Markelle Fultz (DeMatha/Hyattsville, Md.), he's one of the top two juniors in this area, and has an extremely bright future ahead of him.
