COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Daxx Garman will join the University of Maryland football team for the 2015 season, head coach Randy Edsall announced Thursday. Garman has one year of eligibility remaining and will begin classes on Monday. He will be pursuing his master’s degree in supply chain management.

Garman, who successfully completed his undergraduate degree earlier this month at Oklahoma State with a major in sociology and minor in business management, was also named to the Big 12 Academic Honor Roll the last two years. A waiver request will be filed on behalf of Garman to grant immediate eligibility.

As a junior at Oklahoma State in 2014, Garman appeared in nine games (eight starts), totaling 2,041 passing yards and 12 touchdowns.

“We are excited that Daxx will be joining our program,” Edsall said. “He is an experienced quarterback who has proven himself as an accomplished starter in the Big 12, helping to lead his team to a postseason bowl game. Daxx is an outstanding student who has displayed tremendous poise and maturity during his college career. He comes in knowing he is competing for the starting quarterback position and is looking forward to the competition and being part of our football family.”

The Southlake, Texas, native played his best game of the season in the Cowboys’ Big 12 opener against Texas Tech, throwing for 370 yards and four touchdowns and running for a score to lead Oklahoma State to a 45-35 victory.

“Coach Edsall has done a great job with the football program and he truly cares about his players,” Garman said. “I’m very excited to compete in the Big Ten Conference. Maryland is an outstanding university and I’m excited to further my education and continue playing football. I enjoyed my visit in College Park and I’m excited to have this opportunity.

Garman opened his tenure at quarterback by winning his first four career starts for Oklahoma State, including victories over UTSA, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas.

Oklahoma State went on to play in the 2015 TicketCity Cactus Bowl, where it defeated Washington, 30-22.
