HYATTSVILLE, Md. -- TT had an opportunity to see Wise High School (Upper Marlboro, Md.) at the DeMatha Summer League on May 30, for the first time this year. And we have to say they are an impressive group of players, who transition together with a lot of precision. They have a young sophomore '2' guard, Michael Speight, who could possibly turn into a '3' if he continues to grow. Currently he stands 6-3, and is solidly built for such a young athlete.

With his 18 points, three steals, two blocks and numerous rebounds, Speight showed a strong willingness to go hard and strong at both ends of the court. Speight will be a name to remember in the near future. He handles the rock with the ease of a point guard, as well as a little shake and bake, but keeps his opponents off-balance with a quick stop-and-pop from most anywhere on the court. At this stage of his development, Speight has a nice touch on his jumper.

Speight's opposition will have to worry about his desire to run in transition with the ball in his hand. He has no hesitation taking a rebound coast to coast, and always seeking out a teammate for an easy assist. Speight is very unselfish and plays 100 percent from whistle to whistle.

Speight's defensive prowess was just as impressive as was his aggression on offense, where he and his teammates remained in constant motion with crisp, accurate passing. always waiting on the appropriate shot. On defense, Speight and his teammates were constantly breaking up passing lanes, creating loose balls and fast breaks.

Speight and his Wise team were fun to watch, as if they have been playing competitively together since early grade school.

As the summer progresses, TT will keep an eye on Speight's progression and the offers sure to come his way, as Maryland is already on his trail.
