SEVERN, Md. -- Despite chilly temps and a steady downpour, Chris Baucia's Quarterback Factory Showcase attracted some local and regional gunslingers April 23 at Archbishop Spalding High School, looking to both showcase their games, as well as to see how they measure up to the area/region's top passer in Terps' verbal commit Kasim Hill of St. John's (Washington, D.C.).
Here's how some of the campers fared:

Kasim Hill (St John's): Best QB on the day between poise, footwork, arm and accuracy. Hill has taken big steps with each season on his QB progression/curve.
"Next Bests" of the Day:
  • Evan Fochtman - Archbishop Spalding ...accurate, strong arm, very athletic. May attend Ivy, an all-metro Baltimore prospect with a 4.5 40-yard dash...
  • Chad Palmer - Westlake HS - excels in all phases of the game, high football IQ, perhaps a Lower D1 prospect at this time.
  • Michael Piperno - Washington Township NJ ... Big arm, athletic, and accurate.
  • Darius Sample - Dundalk HS - very athletic, good arm
  • Dominic Totaro - Atholton HS  big arm....
  • Dylan Partain - Broadneck HS ... great frame, 6-foot-4....
  • Addison Linn - South Carroll HS ...technician, high IQ and athletic....
  • Michael D'Angelo - 6-4, big arm
Other notables:
Wade Rippeon - Damascus HS
Chris Diorio - Century HS
2018 Class
Tucker Strachan - Bullis... Could be second-coming of Kevin Hogan.
Nick Patti - St Joseph Regional (NJ)... Fundamentally sound, makes all the throws.
Jared Lewis - St. Frances ....Huge arm, good size, high ceiling.
Jemichael Jones - North Point... unlimited potential, strong lefty
Markell McDaniels - Blake HS
Issac Clarke - Archbishop Curley
Tyler Woodard - City HS
Ryan Sedgwick - Arundel HS
Ryan Leyh - Linganore HS....potential BCS.
Jayden Umbarger - Gilman... maybe lower D1.
Justin Kapp - DeMatha HS

FAST young slot receiver.  Great first move with ability to get open quickly in space. Performed very well against older varsity athletes.  Good hands and ability to find the edge after reception to get downfield.

Rodger Holcombe

2018 5-8, 160 pounds Towson High School, Towson, MD

Made several spectacular catches during 1-on-1's.  Has great get off and good vertical to be able to bring down the ball in coverage.

Ed Lee

Ability to separate from defender at snap, or with lightning quick feet downfield.  Showed great ability to adjust to find the ball on errant throws. Strong overall performance.

Jack Porter

Very coachable during instructional drills, applied new take off and route concepts easily.  Good speed for his size, explosiveness helps him go up and get the ball downfield in coverage

Aaron Pray

Confident slot receiver showed competitive spirit when facing premier DB's.  Obviously hard worker, great footwork and ability to get open in space.

Solid footwork and take off with great motor and speed.  Easily able to create space to give QB ability to target him quickly, and after the catch showed true ability to find a seam and extend drives with his quick feet.

DB Standouts

Emmanuel Lewis

2017 5-9, 170 pounds, Paint Branch High School, Burtonsville, MD

Exceptional footwork in drills.  Stood out in 1-on-1's in press coverage and ability to close on receiver downfield to make play for ball.

DJ Brown

2018 6-1, 170 pounds, St John's College High School, Washington, DC

Highly competitive DB with great footwork, and instinct to anticipate routes made it very difficult for receivers to create separation.  Very physical in press coverage, which forced QBs to check to another receiver.

Davon Ferguson

2018 5-9, 175 pounds, St Frances Academy, Baltimore, MD

Physical at the line of scrimmage. Strong ability to adjust and close on receiver to make play for ball. Showed confidence facing top receivers and possess that heart/swagger coaches look for in shutdown corner.

Darnell Clement

2017 6-0, 190 pounds, St Stephens High School, Alexandria, VA

Physical defender with surprisingly light feet in press coverage.  Showed explosiveness and ability to jump routes several times during 1-on-1 competition.
