I want to give Purdue credit. They’re a really good basketball team. They could’ve folded. We were up 12, the building was going crazy and they actually started to play better. They made a lot of plays. Swannigan was terrific – back to back 3s out there.

This one hurts. We played well enough to win. We allowed them to beat us at the foul line. We had some silly fouls down there at the end. But give them credit.

They’re so hard to guard, and we held them to 38 percent. Our post guys were terrific. Ceko was great, Damonte was great, Ivan was great, LG was great when he was in. I was really proud of that. And they outrebounded us by 3, and that’s pretty good for us. We battled.

We came up short. We’re not used to losing close games, but today we just couldn’t get that last shot.

On Melo Trimble Pull-Up

That was on me if he shot it too soon. I told him when to run the play. But what a great shot. The guy’s been unbelievable for three years. He got to the foul line 15 times and he was terrific. He was the reason we were in the game. I loved [the play]. It was a knew play we hadn’t really shown. We got the ball six feet away.

But we’re about defense. I wanted to win it on defense. And we just couldn’t get that stop.

On No Field Goals In Final Minutes

They were great defensively, and we couldn’t hit a jump shot. So they zoned up on the point guard and did a nice job. We didn’t make shots, and they scouted us well and did a good job on our plays.

I wish I could’ve gotten us a layup or something, but we got to the foul line and sometimes you’ve got to get some second-chance points in those situations. I can’t remember if we got any good possessions or not, I know Kevin’s shot, Anthony’s shot, those deep 3s were not good possessions. And I thought we were going through the motions a little bit offensively in that stretch

On Cekovsky

It’s a big step for out team. But he hurt his foot there so we’ll see if anything comes up tomorrow with it. It’s very encouraging, though, and he really helped us defensively. We’re the one team that can go head-up with Purdue in the post, and if Ceko adds a low-post game to our offense, it’s really going to help us moving forward.

On Team Defense, Rebounding

I told the guys, we battled. We hustled. I was proud of the guys. But we’ve got to bounce back. It’s a quick turnaround on the road. But we’re hurting right now, because we played well enough to win. We were one possession away and did some good things. We just have to play a little smarter.

On Destined To Lose A Close Game?

I don’t know. The world is round. But I still thought we were going to win it. I thought everyone did. We just didn’t get a stop.

On Defending Purdue's Post Players

That's what I always try to do -- play good defense, protect the rim, and I'm getting better every day. I think I played 13 minutes today. It's a process. I try to be an impact player every time, play my role and just keep playing food defense.

On Playing a Lengthy Purdue Team

It was a good experience to play against a team like them, and we're going to learn from this. It was a battle. They won. They're a big strong team. We were just fighting, trying to do our best.

On No FGs in Last 7:37

We played really good on offense and defense, and we still got the looks. We just didn't hit the shots. It's normal. I thought we did a really good job on defense and in the low post.

On The Foul At The End

We were just trying to guard them with a lot of different defenses. We fouled him, and he made the free throws. It happened.

On UMD Becoming Complacent?

I knew we were up 12, but we weren't thinking about that. We stayed focused. We just weren't hitting our baskets. We still got good looks. It just didn't happen

On Huerter's Shot At The End

After [Purdue] went up, we still had three seconds left, we had a good play called, Damonte [Dodd], I think got the ball up high. And when Kevin caught it and put it up, I actually thought it looked pretty good. It just didn't happen for us.
